Every few weeks a supplement gets crowned the natural version of a weight-loss drug. Right now it’s berberine’s turn. So here’s the honest coach’s answer.
Berberine is real. It’s not snake oil. It helps your liver release less sugar into your blood, slows how fast carbs absorb, improves insulin sensitivity, and has solid research behind it for lowering A1C. If you’re working on metabolic health, it can have a place.
But here’s what the headline skips:
Berberine does not turn off hunger. A GLP-1 works up in your brain …it quiets appetite, slows digestion, cuts cravings. Berberine doesn’t do that. Same shelf, completely different machine.
So calling it “nature’s Ozempic” isn’t just wrong …it sets people up for false hope and delays the help some of them actually need.
Here’s the bigger thing I keep coming back to: there is no shortcut that replaces stewardship. No capsule reorders your life. My job as a coach is the outside-in work strength, recomposition, getting your metabolism back into rhythm. The inside-out work? That belongs to God. I’ve never met a supplement that could do His job.
Do the daily thing. Eat real food. Move with purpose. And if you’re weighing berberine against a prescription, talk to your doctor …not a TikTok.
